About me

Here is my story and I am sticking to it!

I was born in Winnipeg, MB to my wicked awesome parents Matt and Janice. Their first born and a hand full. Was walking by 8 months, running by 9 life as they knew it was over. Sometimes I wonder why after me they would want more kids but luckily 4 years and 10 months later mom gave birth to my sister, Nicole. She is truly one of my best friends, not only did they give me a sister but a true friend for life. I am truly blessed by our friendship.

Winters in the “peg” were active. We cross country and alpine skied, skated and played pond hockey. But the neatest thing was our trips to the mountains. From a very young age we out to our Fernie condo every winter and I learned to ski and dance in that famous “Griz Powder”. I was a lucky kid to spend 4 to 5 weeks in the mountains every winter. Skiing in all types of conditions and all over the mountain. The summers in Winnipeg were filled with soccer, golf, and long days at the lake water skiing, swimming.

When I was told we were moving to Calgary. I was excited because all I knew was it was close to Fernie and the mountains. The first year we moved to Calgary I joined a local ski club but at Christmas I did a Christmas camp with the Fernie ski club and was hooked by the mountain, its powder snow and the club.

F.A.S.T (Fernie Alpine Ski Team) lead by the coach Rod Timm has played an integral part in my ski career and I will always cherish and appreciate the club, Rod and all my support in Fernie. I love to compete. My athletics as a kid revolved around skiing, soccer, and field hockey. I excelled at all them and eventually was recruited or participating at the national in all of them. The highlight in soccer was when I was 15. We won the U 18 Nationals and then I was asked to try out for the U19 National Team. I attended several training camps until the snow flew and once it fell I knew where I belonged. It wasn’t easy to walk away from soccer I loved it. I had the chance to go back to it after the ski season but I never did I had made the provincial ski team and decided to focus on skiing. Skiing racing was where I wanted to be. Part of me wishes I did not have to give ups soccer and field hockey at that time because I really loved them. In fact I am now back playing women’s field hockey in Calgary. From Fernie I made the BC Ski Team and spent three seasons with them. I then decided to switch to the Alberta team to be closer to home and my family. Through the provincial programs I raced all over North America and Europe representing our Country at the World Juniors in Italy and at La Massif,Quebec.

After the provincial teams I spent two years in the National Program focusing in on the speed disciplines and eventually racing at the World Cup Level. At the end of the second year I was ranked in the top 100 in the world and was one of the top down hillers in Canada. However, with the speed queens (Emily Brydon, Britt Janyck, and Kelly Vanderbeek) all ranked in the top 15 in the world my hopes of competing at 2010 was some what limited. I wish the speed queens well it was a very good experience training and racing with them. Alpine racing was great to me and I raced and trained all over the world in over 15 different countries in Europe, NA and points down under. In the spring “08” skier cross came calling and I am glad I answered the door. The training over the summer and in to the preseason was simply awesome. I love my new teammates, coaches, training environment and can’t wait for the competitive season to begin.

Sport has been my life. I love it and ski cross “rocks”. See you on the slopes. Come say hi to me.
